Mizan- Tepi University School of Law was officially launched in 2009. Though, it has been recently established, the School is a preeminent one in realizing the objectives and the values of higher education institutions by producing competitive graduates with qualified knowledge, skills and professional ethics who could overcome the draconian problems in Ethiopia and shifting the image of Ethiopian justice administration system.
The need to open the School of Law is to increase the accessibility of legal education in wider context of the country. By the same rationale with other Law Schools, it is opened to prepare competent legal professionals who work for the prevalence of rule of law, democracy, human rights, good governance, equality, tolerance, social justice and sustainable economic development. It shall train and graduate adequate manpower at different levels to meet the ever increasing needs of the Ethiopian society in the field of law. Moreover, the Law School endeavors to produce vibrant research community so as to generate knowledge through research and publication. The Law School also educates students who could promote community based activities so as to solve pressing socio-legal problems.
The School is one of the strongest and effective Law Schools of the country in academic quality, research and community service activities. Furthermore, the School of Law has vigilantly been involving in national moot court competitions and won the 2016 national moot court competition, which was hosted by Wollo University, School of Law.
Nowadays, the School of Law has offering LL.B Degree in Regular, summer and Weekend Program. Besides, it has a plan to commence LL.M (Master of Laws) Program in the forthcoming years.

It has also comprised of three coordination units namely, Free Legal Aid Office Coordination Unit, Academic Programs Coordination Unit, Research and Publication Coordination Unit.
