A young researcher of Mizan-Tepi University has been awarded a Gold Medal and a certificate of recognition.

Mizan-Tepi university focuses more on research works that are Problem-solving and high-quality based on competition; and the University highly encourages researcher to get engaged on. In line with this, the Ethiopia Public Health Association (EPHA) has awarded Nahom Solomon, Young Public Health Researcher of Mizan Tepi University, a Gold Medal and a certificate of recognition for his impactful research on public health in Ethiopia and elsewhere.

Nahom Solomon Habtamu (BSc., MPH) is an Assistant Professor of Health Promotion and Health Education at Mizan-Tepi University, in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS). He has earned his Master’s Degree in Health Promotion and Health Education from Addis Ababa University and a BSc. Degree in Public Health from Hawassa University. 

Nahom has served Mizan-Tepi University since September 2015 as an Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer, Assistant Professor, and has been a dean for the School of Public Health and head of the Department of Public Health.  He has played a key role in launching 4 master’s learning program.

Prior to joining Mizan-Tepi university, Nahom Solomon Habtamu has served at different public health centers as a clinician and public health expert. His research works focus on maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS, mental health, and cancer diseases. So far, he has authored and co-authored 13 research articles and there are more than 10 papers under review.

Nahom is a life member of EPHA and the Ethiopian Health Officers Association. He is also a privately licensed health research consultant and participated in several local and national research projects from proposal write-ups to fieldwork and manuscript preparation. He serves as a research reviewer for international journals and EPHA conferences. Considering his overall academic and related performances, the Senate of Mizan-Tepi University has promoted him to an Assistant Professor rank in July/2022.  Beyond his professional contributions, Nahom has also published three poetry books in Amharic Language.
