A 45-day capacity-building training program organized by Mizan-Tepi University in collaboration with Baro Technology PLC (USA) has been successfully completed. The program trained 46 outstanding high school students from Tepi City in Python coding and English language skills, of whom 26 were young women.
The graduation ceremony was held on August 27, 2017 E.C., with representatives from Baro Technology in attendance. Mr. Bizuayehu Demise, Dean of Basic Student Services at Tepi Campus, delivered the welcoming speech, followed by an opening address from Professor Besufekade Mekonnen, Director for Community Engagement and Technology Transfer, who expressed the University’s appreciation to Baro Technology for their generous support.
Dr. Temam Kadire, chief coordinator of the program, presented an overview of the training process, noting that Baro Technology fully financed the program, including student allowances, while Mizan-Tepi University handled student selection, transportation, laboratory support, and overall coordination. During the event, trainees showcased one of their innovative projects, a Library Management System.
Ms. Nazrawit Abraham, Country Manager of Baro Technology Ethiopia, congratulated the graduates and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding collaboration with the University. The English language component of the program was designed and delivered by Dr. Girma Tesfaye of the English Language Department, highlighting the importance of language proficiency in technology adoption.
Graduates expressed their deep appreciation, noting significant improvements in their IT and language skills, and called for similar opportunities to be extended to students in other areas. Certificates of completion were awarded to all trainees and trainers.
Officials from Tepi City’s Education Office and local school principals thanked Mizan-Tepi University and Baro Technology for the opportunity. In his closing remarks, Mr. Aytenew Kassa, representing the Sheka Zone Education Department, emphasized the program’s importance in supporting the government’s efforts to enhance education quality nationwide.
