The Office of the Vice President for Research and Community Engagement of Mizan-Tepi University has officially launched 3 online research journals on March 7, 2025.

In the historic inaugural ceremony,  Dr. Wako Geda, President of Mizan-Tepi University; His Excellency Mr. Deneke Mamo, Counsellor to the Social affair of the Chief administrator of south west region of Ethiopia (SWRE), as a guest of honour; Vice Presidents of MTU; chief executives of the campus; middle level managers of the academic affairs as well as university instructors have attended the ceremony.                               

Dr. Askale G/michael, Director for Research, Publication Ethics and Dissemination of Mizan-Tepi University, has announced the three research journals: Green Valley Journal of Agriculture; Green Valley Journal of Health and Biomedical Sciences; and Green Valley Journal of Science, Technology and Engineering; and she has further thanked those who participated in the work that revives the research culture.

Dr. Girma Tilahun, Vice President of Research and Community Engagement of MTU, after delivering his welcome message, he alleged that the inauguration of the three journals, which is the first in the university’s history, is a great breakthrough and enabling MTU to be competitive nationally and internationally. He added that the inauguration of these journals is a significant contribution in terms of the three missions that must be fulfilled by the higher educational institution as per the request of the Ministry of Education at the national level. In line with this, Dr. Girma has acknowledged the researchers who engaged tirelessly in the work, including former leadership of MTU who came up with the idea. The V/President further thanked all the university community and partners who have taken strong part in the preparation of the journals in ideas and knowledge. He called on the entire community to play their part in the ongoing efforts to make journals competitive and world-class.

Dr. Wako Geda, the President of Mizan-Tepi University, for his part, has strongly appreciated that great work that MTU meant for and has moved from one chapter to another in the field of research. At the same time, all the university community must work hard to change the institution’s past reputation to a higher and better level. Dr. Wako has called on the researchers to take advantage of this opportunity to focus on researches that are influential at the national and international level and benefit our communities; and he officially announced that MTU is more supportive than ever.

The Guest of Honour of the day, His Excellency Mr. Deneke Mamo, has delivered a message. In his message, he noted that the new leadership at this stage is admirable for the transformation of MTU from its external appearance; and that research and development are great tools to identify and solve the problems of the society. He strongly urged the entire community of MTU to work together to build a positive image of the university. His Excellency Mr. Deneke added, the educated human resource at the university is a great asset to the region that the region’s government will work with the university to create conducive conditions for the success of research and community activities that will lead to better growth and prosperity in the community.
